Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao believes he has a “fair chance of winning” should he face six-division champion Oscar de la Hoya, who is currently deciding on who to fight for his farewell bout.

“I fully trust Coach Freddie [Roach] when he says we have a good chance of beating Oscar dela Hoya. Despite his size, reach and other advantages, I believe we have a fair chance, too, in winning if we finally decide on which weight division are we fighting,” Pacquiao said in his online column, “Kumbinasyon.”

Pacquiao, who recently won the WBC lightweight title via technical knockout over Mexican-American David Diaz, said dela Hoya was one of his early idols.

“Minsan ay nasabi ko sa kanya na humahanga ako sa kaniyang mga nagawa sa ring bilang isang boxer at businessman,” Pacquiao said.

He, however, said that as a boxer, it is his job to train and fight for his upcoming bouts. He added that though he has the final say on who to face, he trusts his handlers in choosing his next opponent.

“Aside from [Top Rank promoter] Mr. [Bob] Arum, I also have my family and other important people in my team to give me added information why or why not we should push through with a fight with Mr. dela Hoya,” he said.

“Kapag nagkasundo-sundo ang lahat, nasa akin ang final na pasya at kadalasan, natutuloy ang laban dahil na rin saw ala naman akong inuurungan at kinakatakutang boxer,” Pacquiao added.

Pacquiao said he is leaving for the US Thursday to talk with Arum regarding the planned fight.

He said he will be taking along his family to enjoy a US vacation before immersing himself once again into training.

Arum earlier said in an interview over radio dzSR that he already had initial talks with Golden Boy Promotions about the possibility of staging a dela Hoya-Pacquiao fight in December.

Arum revealed that dela Hoya is looking at four names to choose from for his farewell fight: Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Felix Tito Trinidad, Miguel Cotto and Pacquiao.

He said that as of now, Mayweather and Trinidad are out of the picture. The former has already retired while the latter has climbed in weight.

“That leaves two fighters for Oscar to fight on December 6: Miguel Cotto who is fighting next week against Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao,” said Arum.
