Cebu International School’s Misha Co ended a yearlong drought to finally snag a title in the Bowlingplex Tenpin Association Monthly contest as she won the August contest last weekend at the Gaisano Bowlingplex. Co, who had been settling for runnerup finishes the entire year, ended the jinx in style as she defeated three-time winner Kim Lao. Co, who competed in last July’s Asian Schools Bowling Champions in Hong Kong, toppled a total of 1,780 pins in the eight-game tournament to win the August title. University of San Carlos Talamban’s Lao, who is the title holder for the months of February, May and June, came at a distant second with 1,606 pinfalls. Breathing down Lao’s neck is USC South Campus’ Xyrra Cabusas, who was just one pin short off Lao’s finish with 1,605. Co leaned on an explosive performance in the first game, where she finished on top of the eight-man field with 219 points. Her closest rivals, Lao and Cabusas lagged behind as they wrapped up the first frame with 200 pinfalls each. Riding on the crest of her first game leadership, Co went on to register her best finish in the tournament when she racked up 256 pinfalls in the second game to further solidify her lead. Aside from this, Co maintained her scoring within the 200-pin margin all throughout the competition. She, however, hit a snag in Game 3, when her output slipped to 173. But with her performance in the rest of the tournament, it was not enough for her to be booted out of the top spot. For her victory, Co joined other Monthly Winners, Lao, Jacklynn Lim, Germaine Uang, Bette Goyoco and Alexis Sy, who all will be competing against each other at the end of the year to determine the best lady bowler of the year.
