Manila, Philippines -- Two teams from the Philippines are currently in Brunei participating in the Brunei Cup, previously known as the Sultan’s Cup. Using the tournament as a tune-up for the 2007-2008 PBA season, the Sta. Lucia Realtors have swept all their games so far, beating the Australians, the New Zealanders of Singapore, LG of Korea, which has two American imports and Harbour Centre-RP .
The Jordanians remained winless after the Realtors drubbed them in overtime Friday night, earning a ticket to the knockout semifinal round. A few hours before the game against Jordan, I asked SLR governor and team manager Buddy Encarnado, who joined his team in Brunei, if we should be ready to roll out the red carpet and welcome them with a ticker tape parade upon their return. “Malayo pa. Although we’ve won all our games so far and we’re the only team that has defeated the Koreans, I’m worried about the Australians, who are very tall. They have a 6-11 and a 6-10 player. Takot ako sa match-up sa ilalim, wala pa naman si Kelly (Williams),” Buddy said, hours before the game against Jordan. Source: Inquirer.net |
