PBLHarbour Centre beat perennial rival Hapee Tothpaste, 87-77, to score a six-game sweep of the first round of the 2009 PBL PG Flex Linoleum Cup Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Batang Pier relied on their bench to beat the Complete Protectors whom they also defeated in a highly-charged finals series last June.

Benedict Fernandez, Raffy Reyes and Boyet Bautista came through with crucial baskets as the six-peat seeking Harbour Centre pulled away from the tenacious Hapee squad.

Hapee, which is still waiting for the arrival of Ateneo’s Chris Tiu, finished the round at 3-3.

FEU standout Fernandez exploded for a career-high 20 points on a splendid 8-of-11 shooting in 21 minutes of the bench.

He scored 11 of his 13 first half points in the second quarter, giving the Batang Pier a 44-38 halftime lead.

"Our second team stepped up in this game especially Benedict," said Harbour head coach Jorge Gallent. "Sana tuloy-tuloy na ito, we just have to be consistent especially on our offense."

Harbour swingman Rico Maierhofer missed just a point from completing another double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Former UAAP MVP Jervy Cruz also fell short of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds for Hapee, who last threatened at 56-55 with 2:22 in the third after sinking a basket inside.
