San Beda and Letran flexed their muscle in different fronts by topping their respective events Sunday in the 85th NCAA table tennis and lawn tennis competitions at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym and Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, respectively.

The Kurt de Guzman-mentored Lions drew strength from eventual MVP Japheth Adasa in edging last year’s titlist College St. Benilde to rule men’s table tennis.

Making it a double celebration for the Mendiola-based school, high school MVP Karl Angelo Bolado paced the Cubs to the juniors crown over San Sebastian to complete a back-to-back romp.

St. Benilde didn’t go home empty-handed, though, as the Lady Blazers dominated the women’s side for the fifth straight season.

Emerging as the lawn tennis title holders this year were the Letran Knights, who dethroned previous champ CSB Blazers, 2-1.

Dave Regencio teamed up with Elnathan Abella in trouncing Larry Antigua and Daniel Bautista, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, and then turned back a well-rested Martin Ramos in the deciding singles duel, 6-3. 7-6 (5), to eke out the come-from-behind win for Letran.

CSB actually took the initiative early after Bautista walloped Keff Gamano in the first singles match, 6-3, 6-4.

San Beda, which also ruled demonstration sport soft tennis, continued its juggernaut as it ruled the high school division by smashing last year’s winner CSB, 2-1.

Perpetual Help and San Sebastian finished third and fourth, respectively, in the seniors’ section while San Sebastian and Letran ended up third and fourth, respectively, in the juniors’ class.
