The Wizards leaned on an Edwin Torres three-pointer and an Ogie Menor defensive gem to pull off a 77-75 decision against the Titans Thursday to boost their own bid of earning an outright semifinals berth in the 2009 PBL PG Flex Unity Cup at the San Juan Gym. Torres, a 5-foot-8 Fil-Am guard drained a three-pointer to break a 73-all deadlock in the 27.8 ticks left. After Rico Maierhofer pushed the Titans back at 76-75, JP Alcaraz split his charities for a more comfortable lead then Menor preserved the win when he tapped the ball away from Benedict Fernandez that led to a loose ball scramble. Maierhofer managed to grab the loose ball but was called for a traveling violation finally sealing the win for the Wizards and ending the Titans’ five-game winning streak. Magnolia joined Licealiz Shampoo from second to third spots with similar 3-3 records. Menor led the Wizards’ scoring with 17 points while Marcy Arellano and Eder Saldua added 13 and 10 each. Maierhofer scored 13 points to lead Oracle’s losing cause while Fernandez and Edwin Asoro netted 10 apiece. |
