UAAP baseball: Malig homers help Adamson blank NU

First baseman Marvin Malig entered his name in Philippine baseball’s record books when he became the first player to have a multi-homer game.

Malgi belted three home runs to complete defending champion Adamson’s 7-0 shutout win over National University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) baseball tournament.

The 20-year old Malig, who hails from Nueva Ecija, led the Falcons’ 18-hit attack blasting homers in the first, fifth and seventh innings against Bulldogs pitchers Bryan Diaz, Joseph Albindo and Mick Natividad.
 
Junior baseball gets boost, season up April

Baseball Philippines is taking a step forward in developing the sport in the country with the formal launching of a similar tournament among the youth aged 15-17 years old.

Appearing in the weekly PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch, Chito Loyzaga of Community Sports Inc. bared the holding of the pilot season of the Junior Baseball Philippines three months from now involving four community teams.

The meet will be unveiled during the opener of Baseball Philippines Series V at the Rizal Memorial baseball stadium on April 12, although opening hostilities won’t begin until April 25.
 
Batangas swats Muntinlupa in Series IV

BaseballSeries III champion Batangas surprised Muntinlupa, 3-0, Sunday to barge into the semifinal ranks of Baseball Philippines’ Series IV at the Rizal Baseball Stadium.

A report posted on SportsNews.ph said the Batangas Bulls drew strength from Valdimir Eaguia, Chris Canlas and Junifer Pinero at the plate to pull the rug from under the Muntinlupa Mariners.

With the win, the Bulls arranged a duel with Cebu Dolphins in a clash of past champions in the semifinal round next week. Cebu, which captured the Series II plum, clinched the top seeding after emerging with an 8-2 slate.

 
Baseball Series IV: Cebu shreds champs Batangas, joins Taguig in semis

MANILA, Philippines - The Cebu Dolphins made it to their fourth straight playoffs. And it was at the expense of the defending champion.

Center-fielder Jonash Ponce and right-fielder Carlo Conge had two RBIs each and Cebu's bats were stuck in automatic, as the Dolphins blasted the Batangas Bulls 11-1 in the Baseball Philippines Series IV Sunday at the Rizal Ballpark.

That means the Dolphins (7-2) have made it to each postseason since the league's inaugural competition in early 2007.
