Badminton president Amelita “Ming” Ramos broke her silence yesterday and said the association did not sanction the three foreign players and two business executives, who are “playing for the country” in the ongoing US Orange County Badminton Championship.

The former first lady said the association only gave its sanction to RP team member and the country’s highest-ranked player Kennevic Asuncion and former junior standout Irene Chui to carry the country’s colors in the prestigious tournament.

“I never gave any sanction to non-national players. We only sanctioned Kennevic and Irene. The rest of the team, I never allowed them to compete in the US Open.”

“Baka may pera sila at ginastusan nila ‘yung trip nila, but the PBA never gave sanction for them to represent the Philippines,” said Ramos, who said she will call an inquiry to put an end to this latest controversy in the badminton association.

“I will check and see how this happened without my knowledge,” added Ramos.

Indonesian national Kwee Tiek and Rudy Wijaya, Chinese expat Lili Wang, together with Bingo Bonanza chief executive Albee Benitez and businessmen Frederick Go and Ricky Morales are seeing action in the ongoing US Open supposedly as members of the Philippine Team.
